Originally from Sydney, Rob has had a camera in his hand for as long as he can remember. He enjoys experimenting and allows the subject and conditions to influence his approach to each shoot. While he avoids locking himself into a “style” or limiting himself to any particular genre, he draws much of his inspiration from the natural environment and is most at home in the remote Australian wilderness. Along with the language of light, line, texture and pattern Rob looks for energy in the frame, whether it’s the energy of the subject in a dynamic portrait or the environmental energy in a landscape, whether it’s explicit in movement or implicit in mood. The camera is a tool that captures a moment in time, a trick of the light. It’s up to the photographer to see that moment. In the words of Ansell Adams: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it”.
