Elaine Holborn
I have been a painter on and off for 20 years, starting my journey when my children were young and we were living in Indonesia, Mumbai and Darlington. I now live on Noongar boodja land in Gelorup WA I am a semi-abstract artist of landscapes and flowers and more recently, objects which are used on a daily basis in my home. I paint in oils, using bold colours, cold wax, sand and chalk to add texture and interest to my work. The compositional aspects of my paintings are emphasised with a flattened perspective and a naïve distortion of objects. My art is a combination of layers of paint, which I scrape back, carve into, rub back and sand. The tools of my trade are many and varied from palette knives, to old credit cards, rags and pottery tools and even my fingers and hands. If I’m not in my studio, a semi-renovated 1930’s railway carriage, I can be found in my garden which is on 5 acres in Gelorup.
